Student Life
Interact Club
Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club that gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun and meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends. The basic principle of the Rotary Interact is to help others. Our motto is “service above self”. Through service activities, Interactors learn the importance of developing leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others, and advancing international understanding and goodwill. Members of the club help to develop and carry out a wide variety of service projects. Raising money for worthwhile causes, working within the school, and working directly with people in the community are a few ways Rotary Interact members are involved. Members of the club also assist the Rotary Club of El Paso and the district Rotary Club with various local community projects. There are no special requirements for membership other than willingness to help others and a desire to make our community a better place in which to live. There are no dues to pay and everyone is welcome.
Yearbook
A fast paced organization that brings students together in creating a scrapbook that captures the year’s events. While in Yearbook, students learn programs and software to help design and put together layouts. While all students are pushed to dabble in every section of the yearbook; they often find their specialties like story writing, photography, layout design, section editor, etc.; and grow from there. Yearbook has been more than just capturing moments; it has been a place for students to come out of their comfort zones and embrace their inner journalist.
Newspaper
Deadlines and headlines! Newspaper is an organization that gets students out and asking questions to give information back to the school. Students learn important communication and writing skills; along with photography skills to enhance their stories. The Newspaper is changed monthly on our website where their stories can reach not only faculty, staff, and students, but the outside community to include alumni and parents.
Student Council
The school Student Council is a group of elected and volunteer students working together with an adult advisor (Student Activities Director) within the framework of a constitution or bylaws to provide a means for student expression and assistance in school affairs and activities, give opportunities for student experience in leadership and encourage student/faculty/ community relations. Through projects and activities, Student Council works to promote citizenship, scholarship, leadership, human relations and cultural values.
eSports
Esports officially stands for electronic sports, not to be confused with video games. Esports takes video gaming to another level with organized competitive gameplay between two teams, governed by its own strict set of rules and guidelines. The difference is comparable to a pick-up basketball game at a park versus a varsity high school basketball game. Esports requires teamwork, communication, critical and strategic thinking, creativity, sportsmanship, and leadership — much like traditional sports.
Robotics
Robotics is a gathering of students who are interested in learning about and working with robots. At robotics competitions, teams of students must design and build a robot that can compete against opponents in a series of specific challenges. Students develop and program their robot in the weeks before the event, adhering to list of preset rules and regulations. To create a competition-ready robot, students use a number of soft and hard STEM skills.
National Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. NHS students and their peers volunteer in their communities at the highest rates and make connecting with and serving within the community a priority. NHS chapters typically elect officers, who, under the supervision of the chapter adviser, coordinate and manage the chapter as a student organization.
National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Five main purposes have guided chapters of NJHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; to encourage responsible citizenship; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter.
