Music

Orchestra

Orchestra will provide students the opportunity to review and develop fundamental skills. Instruction involves expanding technique, introducing positions, developing vibrato, improving tone quality, learning various bowing styles, and building sight-reading skills. Students may be expected to attend a weekly sectional/rehearsal before or after school if needed. Participation in private lessons and region auditions are encouraged.

Choir

Choir is designed to enhance the musical, creative and expressive qualities of all students.  Musical opportunities are provided for every child to learn the basic skills of singing, playing and reading music, developing song repertoire, broadening listening skills and experiencing the interrelated nature of music with other cultures and content areas.

Guitar

Guitar is a course covering the basics of the instrument and an application of essential music fundamentals. Students will learn the basics of playing guitar at a beginning level through studying music notation, chord symbols, and peer modeling.  The main objective of this course is to create an enhanced appreciation for music through playing the guitar.

Keyboard

Students taking this course are offered keyboard classes in order to develop music proficiency and musicianship. Instruction is designed so that students are enabled to connect, examine, imagine, define, try, extend, refine, and integrate music study into other subject areas. Students perform with proper posture, hand position, fingering, rhythm, and articulation and compose and improvise melodic and harmonic material.

Music Theory

The Music Theory course is designed to enhance music skills and basic music fundamentals. The essential aspects of melody, harmony, rhythm, and form are studied. Throughout the course of the year students will study basic notation, scales, key signatures, intervals, triads, cadences, non-chord tones, form, part-writing and analysis of a score.
